This aircraft is a series MiG-1 of an unknown unit; it was captured by Germans, with other MiGs, in the first days of war.

The aircraft differs from early type MiG-3 for:

• the length was still 8.15 m instead of 8.25 ;
• the last exhaust stack is slightly overposed to the rear side plate;
• there are 7 ventilation slots on each side (instead than 6 as on early series MiG-3);
• some bulges and intakes over the nose were absent, and a small air intake under the nose was smaller;
• the tail wheel doors are without any bulge;
• the underwing removable panels for guns pods ammo were absent;
• the water radiator fairing and main landing gear were different from MiG-3; it had smaller wheels, different doors shape, but on this plane the foldable semicircular doors (I-16 style) were removed;
• the supercharger intakes at the wingroots had shorter lips, particularly the upper ones.

 
 

The general finish is similar to the most of early MiG-3s: overall  green over light blue;  the shade of color on the metallic parts is very faded and lighter than the wooden parts (rear fuselage, wings outer consoles); the red stars have black outline and are in six positions: fuselage, wings upper and undersurfaces; the propeller was unpainted alluminium, with the back partially painted black and very worn; a white 7 is panted on the rudder; 3 white points and a red flash are visible too.
